Sipha Lam’s Wilder Wines is moving to 210 College Street in Burlington, expanding its operations. The new location will feature both a wine shop and a wine bar, offering customers a larger space and a broader selection of wines. The move follows years of Lam’s desire to add a wine bar to her business. The new space, next to Common Deer, previously housed Tinkering Turtle toy shop.
Expanding Retail and Wine Club Offerings
Lam plans to increase the retail selection in the new space. The larger venue will also allow her to expand her wine club, which has 150 members. She is excited about having more room to offer a greater variety of wines, focusing on small, organic growers. Additionally, sections will be dedicated to specific regions like Vermont and Japan.
The new Wilder Wines will feature a 25-seat European-style wine bar. In addition to indoor seating, there will be a patio for summer. Lam envisions offering a mix of wines with a focus on accessibility, offering eight wines by the glass and a list of 50 to 75 bottles. The wine bar will include fun specials like a Lambrusco spritz and snacks from Vermont producers.
Focus on Curated Wine Selection
Customers appreciate Wilder Wines for its curated selection of wines, which are free from additives and come from small, organic growers. Lam is committed to maintaining a selection that is approachable, rather than trendy. The new shop will offer a similar vibe, focusing on organic and non-manipulated wines to keep the offerings genuine.
Lam plans to host tastings and educational events at the new wine bar. The large space will allow her to bring in Vermont winemakers for special events, and she intends to offer classes in the future. Lam aims to foster a loyal community, creating a welcoming place for after-work drinks or a casual glass of wine with friends.
