A new self-service wine bar called Something to Wine About has recently opened on 4th Street in downtown. The bar is the brainchild of Orlando Chapman, who was inspired by a similar concept he encountered a decade ago during a trip to New Orleans. Chapman’s wife, a wine enthusiast, introduced him to the world of wine, and the self-dispensing wine machines he saw in New Orleans planted the seed for his unique lounge idea. Determined to create a relaxed and upscale venue, Chapman decided to focus on a self-service wine bar instead of the traditional club setting when considering his post-retirement plans.
Chapman has a strong background in organizing events for the over-30 crowd, particularly through his collaborations with 3CDC and hosting old-school happy hours. However, he envisioned something more permanent and unique. After discussing his vision with 3CDC, he emphasized his needs for a brick-and-mortar establishment with ample parking and a spacious layout of 3,000 to 4,000 square feet. When shown the space at the 4th and Race development, Chapman immediately knew it was the perfect fit for his wine bar, which now occupies nearly 4,000 square feet.
The bar itself combines modern convenience with a sophisticated ambiance. Guests can enjoy self-pour wine machines, allowing them to explore a variety of wines at their own pace, alongside a full-service bar for additional options. Chapman describes the space as upscale yet laidback, aiming to make visitors feel comfortable and exclusive regardless of how busy it gets. The design ensures that every guest feels like a VIP, enhancing the overall experience of the wine lounge.
A cornerstone of the Something to Wine About philosophy is Chapman’s belief that everyone deserves to feel special. He rejects the traditional notion of VIP sections, explaining that any customer who chooses to spend their hard-earned money at his establishment should be treated with the same level of respect and care as a VIP. This inclusive approach underpins the atmosphere of the bar and reflects Chapman’s commitment to exceptional hospitality.
Adding a special touch to the offerings, the bar features a unique wine blend made exclusively by Revel for Reds Hall of Famer Eric Davis. This exclusive blend not only appeals to wine connoisseurs but also creates a connection to the local community. With its unique self-service concept, welcoming atmosphere, and premium selections, Something to Wine About is positioned to become a standout destination for wine lovers in downtown.
