Trevor and Kay Ferguson are set to launch Nouveau Provisions, a wine, coffee, and dessert café in Carytown. The couple envisions it as the “ultimate date-night spot,” offering a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The café, located at 3423 W. Cary St., will open in the coming weeks. The Fergusons aim to provide a space where guests can enjoy fine wine, sweet treats, and a relaxing ambiance, making it a perfect stop after dinner.
From Farm to Café Expanding Nouveau Provisions Through Wine Desserts and Agri-Tourism
Nouveau Provisions will feature wine produced by the couple’s primary business, Nouveau Farms, alongside desserts from the local bakery JC Desserts. The Fergusons launched Nouveau Farms in 2020, initially as an indoor operation in South Richmond.
Over time, they expanded to a six-acre farm in Varina, where they grow a variety of herbs and vegetables, such as lettuce, basil, cilantro, and chives. Their long-term vision includes an agri-tourism venue where visitors can learn about farming, pick fresh produce, and enjoy wine on-site.

Originally, the Fergusons planned to establish their farm-based venue first and then expand to additional locations. However, due to financing challenges, they decided to reverse their strategy by opening a café first.
The Carytown space previously housed Bryant’s Cider, a cidery that struggled to maintain a permanent location in Richmond before closing its Carytown outpost in November. This shift allows the Fergusons to build brand recognition and generate revenue while continuing to develop their farm.
Nouveau Provisions Offers Wine Lounge Experience Daytime Coffee and Evening Dessert Delights
Trevor Ferguson emphasizes that Nouveau Provisions is neither a restaurant nor a bar but rather a wine lounge and café. The wine selection will feature blends produced by Nouveau Farms, sourced from leased vineyards until their own vineyard in Varina is fully established.
The café is designed as a romantic and relaxing space, where guests can enjoy wine and desserts while listening to live music. The café will also collaborate with local businesses like Fireside Pizza to offer additional food options.
While Nouveau Provisions is positioned as a date-night destination, it also plans to operate in the mornings, serving coffee, tea, and juices from JuiceLifeRVA. This dual-purpose approach aims to attract both daytime and evening visitors.
The café joins a growing number of new businesses in Carytown’s food and beverage scene, including Ripple Ray’s, a Grateful Dead-themed bar, and Dinner Party, a newly opened wine shop. By integrating local partnerships and focusing on quality experiences, the Fergusons hope to create a thriving community hub in Carytown.
