From Wine to Vinegar: resisting mass-culture

For all the talk of terroir, and the argument over its importance, I can see no better argument in its support than Britney Spears.

You see, when choosing the music you want to keep in your collection, you best know that the music has roots and that your collection will one day make you nostalgic for your youth and not make you cringe. I honestly never felt easy about Britney Spears, and throughout her career can proudly say that I boycotted all her number ones. This is not because I’m some sort of sage who could see into the future and know that my potential patronage to the pop-starlet could potentially leave me in support of an umbrella wielding maniac. Rather, knowing a thing or two about vineyards, with -sense comes an understanding that origin is a big part of appreciation.

So, for those who choose to have a music collection rooted in the Mickey Mouse club, then you shouldn’t expect it to age very well: how can one’s music carreer possibly progress after doing a synchronised dance routine! So too, if you choose to have your wine drawn from the depths of the press-juice at the bowels of Casella’s fermentation tanks then that’s well and good, just don’t choose it as the wine to commemorate the birth of your only child on their 21st birthday  lest you find you’ve been harbouring vinegar 21 years from now.

We live in a beautiful world filled with breathtaking vineyards tended by passionate wine-makers who produce magnificent blends. With so much quality as so many different price-points, why would you ever ask for anything less?

I feel it is my duty to point out that anyone, even you would find the kind of pressure Brit has to deal with every day maddening.

Thats why I am finding articles around the web like yours, on a wine website! and telling it like it is.

    We love you Britney!

She should retire and take care of her child. Maybe skip the partying and drinking scene.

It seems purposeful that she’s going nuts so she won’t have to take her responsibilities of child rearing, instead she gets to go around beating things with an umbrella while fans ignorantly support it.
