Obama’s Wine Millennials
Monday, April 21st, 2008
Sour-grapes for Hillary Clinton, whose rotting cynicism is no match for Obama’s sparkle. There’s no doubt that if politicians were wine – Hillary is vinegar and Obama is champagne.
How dare Senator Clinton come out against Senator Obama, after his over rated comments about small-town America being bitter, with a series of photo-opportunities, going through the motions with a camera crew in tow – and in one audacious clip, pausing to have a sip of beer and drink a shot!
Oh sure Hillary, you drink beer so that makes you working-class.
The idea that a certain product can dictate one’s class is especially infuriating to a real wine-drinker, who recognizes wine’s essentially humble and agricultural roots – much the same as beer. That Clinton thinks that she can relate to the working class man with a photo-op drinking beer demonstrates that she is in fact far more derisory of the working class than she would dare let on. Although Obama may be on record saying that people cling to guns and religion because of economic uncertainty (which may not be entirely untrue), for Clinton to respond by taking a sip of beer and drinking a shot means that she thinks the best way to get the attention of the working class is to show an affinity for the bottle (which is slanderous.) Unwittingly, and thus tellingly, she implies that middle-class America are a bunch of drunks.

Reflecting on Morocco
Monday, April 14th, 2008
One of the highlights of the Morocco trip my wife and I recently took was staying with La Baraka Auberge just outside of Merzouga, on the border of the Sahara, about 100 km’s from Algeria. Our host, Hassan Outaleb, was a film-star cum philosopher Berber of nomadic heritage who has run La Baracka for several years.
Rather memorably – if not because it was highly rehearsed, he would impart his own cultural wisdom onto us between meals and volleys of mint-tea ‘Berber Whisky.’ I think the point he made most strongly was ‘what’s bad for the rest of the world, is good for Berber.’ Primarily – at the heart of it, he was referring to the perception (more…)

Duplicate Content and SEO
Wednesday, February 27th, 2008
UPDATE: Vinolin has taken steps to remedy the problems that were caused. If you feel your site is being affected by duplicate content, and would like an analysis, please visit our SEO Services Page. Thanks!
I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but there is a website in the wine industry that claims to be an blog aggregator for the purpose of “content analysis”. Here is what they say about themselves – Vinolin’s justification for being thieves. To make matters funnier/worse, the layout of their site looks like a slight rip-off of cork’d's.
I noticed Vinolin was aggregating our content when I discovered this post on their site about a year ago. In all honesty, it didn’t really bother me all that much, as they were just displaying the excerpt, and I saw there was a back-link to our site.
Now… just take a look at this page: Vinolin’s Rip-Off of our last post. This link takes you to google’s cached version, I did this in the event they pull down the page after this article goes public. On this page, you see they didn’t limit themselves to an excerpt, they blatantly copied the entire post and displayed it on their site. The audacity is unbelievable, especially considering they are aware that people have a problem with it(as people should).
So, not only do I discover that they are stealing content from our site and others, but as an even further sign of disrespect, they have not managed their robots.txt file so as to keep those articles from being spidered by the search engines. For those of you who are unfamiliar with search engine optimization, most search engines exact a penalty for duplicate content. It is not uncommon that an original creator of content can lose page rank, and even their indexed version of a page if the spider crawls the the duplicate first. The fact that they are providing a back-link doesn’t help anything as they would lead you to believe, because they are not linking back to the original content, they are just linking back to the main page of (y)our site. Why Twist Tops Rule!
Wednesday, September 12th, 2007
Most traditionalist look at twist tops with disdain and perceive them to be uncouth. Forget those snobby bastards, Twist Tops Rule, not only do the provide an environmentally friendly alternative to corks, which must be manufacture by cutting down cork tree and processing them in large manufacturing plants. They can be more easily recycled; the bottles are easier to open, especially when inebriated; and lets not forget, look really cool!
Jip Jip Rocks is an Austrailian Winery that has a great Cabernet Shiraz out for around 15 dollars with this modern marvel (the twist top) of human engineering and has a great taste that I would urge anyone who has a chance to buy. Wine Spectator has given in at 90 out of 100 pt ranking. So go and flock to the store, buy your wine and enjoy today.
